Reading the new Terry Pratchett in between installments of Ariyoshi Kyoko's Swan. Might be a mistake as when I reached the end I wondered if maybe Tiffany Aching has turned into your typical shoujo heroine...

Re-drawing the comic, and beefing up the design folder this week. Finished script for the third Invisible Cities animation. Also what with all the property magazines I've been looking at lately, have started compiling a scrapbook for my ideal house. Doesn't hurt to start building a picture in my head :)

Now that I'm in a position to notice, the Ouran version of the Mozart sonata really is rather refreshing. The Nodame & Chiaki version seems more dramatic and emotional.

Moving on to other things I'm not very good at, am going back to my RK fanfic (the het one; the yaoi version set in the same 'verse seems to have stalled, on account of my complete failure to write a convincing escape scenario). Also, recent Tsubasa chapters seem to have kick-started me into writing another Eagle fanfic, a much longer one structurally based on my Ficpod for him. We'll see how that works out.

To dear, dear people still expecting cards: I'm so, so sorry. I'm working on them--I have drawn them and am working on two of them as I speak. I've just run into so many random things this year that I'm worried they will now be Easter cards. =_=

Argh, [livejournal.com profile] angelthorn, should have swiped the Nodame soundtrack from you as well. Have been haphazardly downloading stuff, which is no use at all. Wonder if it would be better to order from Amazon JP.

Am on a classical music kick anyway; it's like modern art: something I only liked in a vague way until I started learning more about it. Have a particular weakness for the cello.

In actual relevant news, have been working on the site for some time now. Some animations are up here; not all the links work, as one of the animations was too big to put up. (^%$# After Effects...) Hope they amuse, anyway.

I've never felt I needed a camera phone. I mean, I have a phone, a good 4 megapix snapper, and a very good 6 megapix SLR. But today I realised what camera phones are for: they're for being the first thing to hand when you have too much stuff to carry a camera AND a phone, and life suddenly throws something truly weird into your path.

Such as, let's say--oh, I don't know--a pair of real pigeon wings hanging from a railing like those headbands on display at H&M. Hanging by their connecting bone frame which has apparently been picked until it is only held together by a few frayed threads of sinew and gristle.

I stood and stared, and kicked myself for a good five minutes. Then I remembered there was another alternative.

The new Vimto Jammie Dodgers give English Breakfast tea a very strange taste.

I keep reading books as I catch sight of them. There's three in my toilet, two in the living room, two on my drafting table, four on my desk, two in my bed and an innumerable number around the rest of my bedroom. As I get busier I just snatch up the nearest book to hand whenever I have a bit of spare time.

I am very excited; have a job as a storyboard artist! £100 for 7 scenes. Funny how these things come out of the blue; hopefully it'll lead to more jobs.

Free Range exhibits have opened! My friend Rachel is of the opinion that one could save an amazing amount of money by just buying monthly travel cards and going to art show openings every night. Free wine and food!

Well, back to work.

Sorry, can't think of a quote right now. =_= Have now been up for...oh, only 24 hours. Actually that's not so terrible.

Anyway, the animations are done! I still haven't learned to embed Quicktime, but here are some more screencaps.

God, I need so much more practice with this animation thing than I have time for. I don't know how to script this, much less do a storyboard. My framing is bollocks, the timing is 3 frames a second, viewers can't tell which character is which, and I have an overwhelming urge to junk my whole life and watch my new Gilmore Girls Season 2 box set.

That being said, the "emblems" conversation is done. Now I only have to get Marco Polo and Kublai Khan to play Marco Polo through badly lit pictures of my paintings. Calvino would have stabbed me in the eye with his pen.

Oscars last night. Watching the Oscars is like eating candy floss--lots of fun, but by the time you get to the end you're sick of it. Also, I wonder if the Academy only watch ten movies every year. Jon Stuart was brilliant though.

Made the puppet heads for the Invisible Cities project! Posting a few of my favourites:

The pesky boy cravings seem to have returned. Will take a page out of Christian Bale's book and channel them into a more profitable use of energy. For example, sculpture! Or I should say modelling.

These fits of moroseness have been coming more often lately; I blame my rl friends (so convenient :P) Jamie just got back together with Tom, Jen [livejournal.com profile] aeonfluxus and Harold are now engaged (actually they announced it over a month ago; I just forgot to post about it), Courtney's moved in with Aaron...oh, I'm just being stupid.

Bed. Tomorrow I can scan puppet heads! ♥

Saw Dena outside Camden Town Tube station tonight--stroke of luck! She invited me to Synthetic Culture next week. Yay for Goth gathering and Jamaican chicken ♥

Invisible Cities project is a go (good grief that sounds so silly, but I'm too sleepy to think of anything better). Scans to follow over the term.

My cousin arrived today; am no longer master of the house *pout*

Have been in some weird creative frenzy the past couple of days. Possibly has to do with jetlag--am up every day at around 5 to 7 am, which would be fine in a country whose sunrise is 5 am, not 8. =_= So am doing the worst thing advisable when living in a closed-up winter house. Oil painting!

merboys

It is really upsetting me that there is no word for "merboy". I thought "merrow" would be perfect, but apparently it's only used for mermaids, i.e. female merpeople. And also, what the hell is this business about mermaids being beautiful women with arbitrary fishtails who can turn into humans at will, whereas mermen are disgusting fishy creatures who are violent and ugly and stayed in the sea? Just goes to show who was doing the writing. God, I hate it when people disguise misogynistic pornographic fantasies as folklore.

That's it. I am appropriating the word "merrow" for "merboy". I shall reject conventional reality and proper etymology, as much as it grates to do so, in favor of artistic necessity. If anyone has alternate suggestions I'd be happy to accept them, but I am left with no choice.

mood swings? what mean you by mood swings?

Finally got around to Pompeii in History of Art. Dr Tidman spoke about the rest of Pompeii, that larger part which hasn't been unearthed yet, and the various reasons why: preservation, lack of funds, not done finding out about the rest of it, etc. Took some pleasure thinking about some of the town still unmarred by tourists or excavators. It reminded me of Euspasia in Invisible Cities*: "...they say that in the twin cities there is no longer any way of knowing who is alive and who is dead."

So I was inspired enough to do a few little fripperies of my own.

*I really want to categorise the cities, just for my own OC pleasure (but also for the upcoming Senior Design Project). Must remember to post that here when I do it.

Friend Steph and I went to see Jamie Woon last night at Ginglik. We arrived over an hour early, so I nicked the best seat in the house--a huge leather armchair from which I had a perfect view not only of the stage, but of the artist's booth, the projection screen, and the rest of the room.

I loved all the performers, although my favourite bit was the on-site cartoonist. The event manager had set up a camera to look over his shoulder as he drew one complete cartoon for every song. There were six performers, each with three songs, so I was really impressed with how quickly he churned out work. It was really good, too. I would have ended up watching him more than the artists if I hadn't been inspired to do some sketches myself.

If all written works were anonymous by decree, would you still collect what you perceived as your favorite author? Would you want to know who wrote your favorite books? If you were the writer, would you prefer anonymity or would you want to put little clues in your books for readers?

. . .

In other news, I've been feeling floaty and disconnected, and finally realised what was wrong: I haven't done anything creative for days. Just went out in the freezing cold and spraypainted a canvas. My fingers and nose are smudged with blue but I feel better already. As soon as the thing's dry I'ma make something, dammit.

Oh God, my room is a MESS. *mucks out stables*

Handed in my animation yesterday. Didn't have time to finish it, but at least did a complete story. The last two scenes need a lot of rounding out, but this is the thing: my teacher really liked it! He said I should go on and do the whole minute as a personal project.

For those of you who want to see it, the Quicktime movie is here. Comments optional, but much appreciated.

Next projects: more Companions, more website pages, and the presents for Terry Pratchett (visiting this October) and Himself's visit in November! Well, was planning to revisit the National Gallery anyway, so can pick the books up there. Also want to make something for [livejournal.com profile] petronia who I'm meeting this weekend! *horrendously excited*

Holy CRAP why am I still awake.

Updating Greek boys comic: made a journal to track its progress, for no good reason. Also worked on Wicked fanart; Red is now red, and partly filled in. Also did homework for Graphics, Illustration and Animation.

See, if I started working at 10 am instead of 10 pm I would not now be looking for my brain. And the base of my spine is owwie. Boy, if my body was a temple I'd have been struck by lightning years ago.
