Reading William Gibson's Distrust That Particular Flavor at the moment. He mentions reading reviews of albums in Melody Maker as if they were SF novels, and it clicked in my mind.

I like a huge variation of different recording artists over different styles and genres. What is the thing that they all have in common? Narrative, of course...so many musicians and composers are storytellers, but what kind of story attracted me more strongly than anything else? My favourite artists tell stories with strong images, that bring out colours and pictures in the mind, even when I don't understand the words. So I thought it would be a fun exercise to match up some of my most-listened albums with some very distinctive comic book artists.

Okay, your turn! What are your favourite albums and who would you want to draw them?

Oh, Iceland. Why is your music so lovely?

It's not like I didn't love Björk already, even in her more experimental modes, but when my friend introduced me to Sigur Rós it was like a completely different world.

Then my illustration teacher got me into múm. While Sigur Rós is operatic and emotionally devastating in its delivery, listening to múm feels more like spending a drizzly winter morning snuggled under your duvet with someone you like very much, who's humming nonsense love songs into your hair. Comforting doesn't begin to describe it.

And now Jónsi's got his solo album, and it's so gorgeous I have to do a painting for each one of his songs. Here's one I did a few months back. I've been working on the third one for ages; I keep screwing it up.

Last night I dreamed I was filming an episode of Prison Break from directly behind Wentworth Miller. I put down the camera, leaned forward and bit his ear (!!!). Unfortunately I don't remember what ensued; hope it was dirty >:P

It suddenly occurs to me that either I was really tall or standing on something in the dream--no WAY could I have reached Stinky's ear with my teeth in real life!

...So yes, [livejournal.com profile] jamieyk was here for the Underworld gig.

Also went to see "Dali and Film" but ended up not seeing most of the films as they're very long. Going back to sit them out, and J will see them when they come to LA in Sept. Like the museums in Spain, we got a bit over-saturated. Which isn't a bad thing ^_^

Anyway, it is time to get on with things a bit. I got an idea for a 24 hour comic; must arrange a day. Also, the washer seems quite well these days, so did some laundry! I love laundry!

Now that I'm in a position to notice, the Ouran version of the Mozart sonata really is rather refreshing. The Nodame & Chiaki version seems more dramatic and emotional.

Moving on to other things I'm not very good at, am going back to my RK fanfic (the het one; the yaoi version set in the same 'verse seems to have stalled, on account of my complete failure to write a convincing escape scenario). Also, recent Tsubasa chapters seem to have kick-started me into writing another Eagle fanfic, a much longer one structurally based on my Ficpod for him. We'll see how that works out.

To dear, dear people still expecting cards: I'm so, so sorry. I'm working on them--I have drawn them and am working on two of them as I speak. I've just run into so many random things this year that I'm worried they will now be Easter cards. =_=

Argh, [livejournal.com profile] angelthorn, should have swiped the Nodame soundtrack from you as well. Have been haphazardly downloading stuff, which is no use at all. Wonder if it would be better to order from Amazon JP.

Am on a classical music kick anyway; it's like modern art: something I only liked in a vague way until I started learning more about it. Have a particular weakness for the cello.

In actual relevant news, have been working on the site for some time now. Some animations are up here; not all the links work, as one of the animations was too big to put up. (^%$# After Effects...) Hope they amuse, anyway.

"We are those you do not know and those you save." Jorge Luis Borges, to James Joyce

Should it worry me that I have more FSTs on my computer than actual albums?

"If you can't beat them...what's the point of teaching?" --I'm Sorry I haven't A Clue

Music artists I want to look up:
Mastodon
Opeth
Sufjan Stevens
Mercury Rev
Curve

I hear these guys are really good, but I haven't heard them. Also, if you have recs of your own, feel free to chime in.

Piffle, it's raining! I wanted to skate today...=_=

"Iraq, incredible weapons. How do you know that? Well, we looked at the receipt..." Bill Hicks

Invited my mum to Livejournal. XD Not to fear; five minutes into the process of customising she got sick of it and left. XDDD

And the sad part is, I DIDN'T REALISE WHO DID THE ENDING until I was in a friend's car on the way home and IT PLAYED ON THE RADIO. I nearly sent us off the road with my hysterics. (not really but...!!!)

[livejournal.com profile] petronia, I'd swear you only mentioned Lonely In Gorgeous when you talked about the anime. Was I wrong? Did I have a brain blink? Or did I just miss that post entirely?

*dizzy from shock*

Melt Wizard - Weis & Hickman
Caramon, Raistlinn--check out the spells he's castin'/Tanis, Laurana--she just wants to jump right on him/Goldmoon, Riverwind--they brought the true gods back to Krynn/Weis and Hickman, yeah/I wonder how you never knew/You're the Margaret Weis to my Tracy Hickman...

No, seriously. Not to mention their songs about Quidditch, RPGs, Legend, Magic: The Gathering, fantasy cosplay and Kingdom Hearts. And I LOVE them. Check out Melt Wizard. You may regret it. XD
