Reading William Gibson's Distrust That Particular Flavor at the moment. He mentions reading reviews of albums in Melody Maker as if they were SF novels, and it clicked in my mind.
I like a huge variation of different recording artists over different styles and genres. What is the thing that they all have in common? Narrative, of course...so many musicians and composers are storytellers, but what kind of story attracted me more strongly than anything else? My favourite artists tell stories with strong images, that bring out colours and pictures in the mind, even when I don't understand the words. So I thought it would be a fun exercise to match up some of my most-listened albums with some very distinctive comic book artists.
Tori Amos: Scarlet's Walk, Little Earthquakes, Boys for Pele - Fabio Moon and Gabriel Ba

Sigur Ros: Takk..., Agaetis Byrjun - P. Craig Russell (who I think should draw Jónsi's Go, as well)

source
múm: finally we are no one - the great Winsor McKay and his beautiful dreamscapes

source
The National: Boxer, Cherry Tree - Becky Cloonan or Ming Doyle

Yoko Kanno should be drawn by Miyazaki, and Maaya Sakamoto by CLAMP, of course!

(Now I've got "Loop" stuck in my head, which always makes me a bit teary...)
The Clash: London Calling - I can't imagine anyone but Jamie Hewlett doing this, honestly.

What about classical composers, who didn't have albums? I think Fantasia and the more daring European animators covered a lot of the pieces I wanted to see visually, but the Belgian artist Schuiten would do a wonderful job with Bach's string pieces.
Okay, your turn! What are your favourite albums and who would you want to draw them?
