Rereading keelywolfe's epic Hobbit fanfic The Road Delivered Us Home, and was inspired to do watercolour fanart of Thorin peeling carrots in Bilbo's kitchen.

I really enjoyed painting his mermaid hair.

What le heck. Did I really just notice I had an inbox on AO3? Really? No wonder I've been shit with replying to comments.

In other news, re. SUPER HOT ASIAN CORPORAL, or SHAC, his name is apparently Will Sharpe and he is a British-Japanese actor who was on Casualty, a show I have never seen in my life. He also co-directed and starred in a very weird but charming short film called Gokiburi or 'Cockroach' (no actual sign of the beasties in the film, thank Ghu). You can watch it here.

Oh my God, it's done.

Inspired by a link to the spatial history of trapdoors in this post. Eames is ambushed and roughed up in his own dream. Arthur and his RAGE come to the rescue. You can tell it’s Eames’ dream, because the projections are giant paisley monsters. This only serves to feed Arthur's RAGE.

So where the hell was I when the Inception fandom appeared last year? It's not like I didn't watch it at the same time as everyone else. I think I was so blown away by the story it didn't feel like there was anything more to look for. And honestly I totally missed the Arthur/Eames thing the first time round. (I know, I know, I might as well hand in my slash goggles.)

Anyway, playing around with the idea of levels in dreams as stage trapdoors as pointed out in this post. In the process learned that Photoshop Elements + lack of working tablet = fail.

I will keep trying, but so far it looks like this )

I have been struck with the flu for the past two days, so I figured it was time to finish the list of Major Hollywood Films [livejournal.com profile] petronia Has Previously Reviewed But I Never Watched for Some Stupid Reason, viz. Atonement, X-Men First Class, Thor and Captain America.

It was really enjoyable to watch all the Marvel films so close together. But unlike the Big Bads of the other two, Loki is just not Marvel-villainy enough for me*. I want to hug him and give him a smooch on his sulky face which is really all he wants, isn't it? All of us boring mortals instantly diagnosed him with second-child syndrome, and because he hails from the LAND OF MANLY VIKINGS (and it was vital to the plot, I guess) not a single person in the whole movie realised it. Between him and Sif, Asgard seems surprisingly backward for such a Clarkian level of technology.

This isn't really a review; I think I need to see all these films again to really parse them. The actual point of this post is: TONY STARK/STEVE ROGERS--I CAN HAS RECS PLZ?? Because Dominic Cooper was hot and looked kinda like Bucky and Peggy was a brilliant brunette who was good with guns and clearly Steve has a TYPE.

*Am I actually complaining that a villain is well-rounded? Sorry. You could argue that Frost Giant Alpha was the Big Bad of that film, but he was so arbitrary I can only think of him as a minor character. Asano Tadanobu got more screen time.

[livejournal.com profile] angelthorn mentioned trailers when I inadvertently made a plane trip into her neighborhood yesterday, and now I'm stuck on Apple Trailers with all these movies I want to see:

Special Treatment - http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/independent/specialtreatment/
The Vintner's Luck - http://youtu.be/HYz79A02V_U
War Horse - http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/dreamworks/warhorse/
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy (the original) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5h1XZ0LzVg4
And the remake - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aco15ScXCwA

I understand that's not actually the interesting part of yesterday. Will maybe post more on that tomorrow.

Does anyone have any? Because I just watched the movie again, and after reading the Temeraire novels and Monstrous Regiment, and watching the Star Trek movie, I remembered how desperately I NEEDED Jim-at-Space-Academy fic. Officers train separately from 'common' cadets but classes are brought together during exercises, mess-hall and dormitory hijinks ensue, lifelong friendships are formed &c.

I bravely plunged into the Pit of Voles and was promptly devoured whole by Mary Sues. Not a slashfic in sight, either. It's awful and frustrating. Help, please?

So, I watched it.

I have all kinds of problems with the last part, and a couple of other bits, but that was the most satisfying Batman movie I've ever seen. It was...almost Dini-standard satisfying. On every level that I wanted. Omg interior design porn!!! and yearning looks over the dinner table (yes, Harvey, tell me what I need to hear...) ♥ ♥ ♥

And now that I've seen it, I'm a little afraid of watching it in IMAX. But I think I will anyway. :D

ETA: comments may contain spoilers, just in case I'm NOT the very last person on my flist who's seen this movie...

"I may write disturbing stuff, but really I have the heart of a small boy... I keep it in a jar on my desk." --Robert Bloch

Oscars last night. Watching the Oscars is like eating candy floss--lots of fun, but by the time you get to the end you're sick of it. Also, I wonder if the Academy only watch ten movies every year. Jon Stuart was brilliant though.

Made the puppet heads for the Invisible Cities project! Posting a few of my favourites:

Hmm, I wonder if I could make icons out of a couple of these...

"Part of the fun of orgasms is looking for 'em." Alanna, Technomancy

I was intending to write about the brilliant work of hilarity that is A Cock and Bull Story, but I got derailed.

So I'll talk about books instead. )

In conclusion, you don't need me to tell you to watch the Tristram Shandy movie. But if you've read any of Catherine Webb's other books, please let me know how they were.

I don't write reviews very well, so my 2p isn't even worth 2p, but...

HOLY SHIT GOBLET OF FIRE. SO MUCH BETTER THAN I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE.

Who sent DanRad back to acting school, and may I sign away my soul to them PLEASE.

*has fits*

WATCH IT WATCH IT WATCH IT. You have never seen or read Harry Potter. I don't care. WATCH THIS MOVIE.

I should just stick to art shows and not go off to the club with everyone afterwards. Sigh. Hopefully tomorrow's stint at Underworld will be without incident.

In other news:
Thins are getting out of hand. Didn't I move here because it WASN'T like the US?
Get this DVD. The featurette is as long and as entertaining as the movie. While you're at it, get the soundtrack. I'm looking at you, [livejournal.com profile] irian.
Godbrother's journal. His writing tends toward purple prose, but he's so widely-read that the quotes at the beginning of each entry are always eclectic and inspiring. My other godbrother, who I'm closer to, prefers rants to musings.

I am so bored. And still awake.
