For [livejournal.com profile] z107m, because she reminded me, and [livejournal.com profile] petronia, who curates photos so much better than I do. ^_^

Pictures of Pompeii...

...part 1. Photoshop is acting up, so it'll be a while before I can edit and upload the rest. My favorites are the bath pictures, of course; I love those dust mote things that look like floating spirits.

Wow! Very impressive. Though am slightly disappointed not to see a petrified Frankie Howerd.

Ah. British comedian who fronted the sitcom Up Pompeii! - Carry On humour filtered through Aristophanes and Brecht, if you can imagine it. He played Lurcio.

I found that insanely funny. The dog even looks like the dog in the Pedigree ad on TV here...But I think the House of Porn amused me more. Didn't post that one yet though--coming soon!

I don't know; I rather thought they'd want to be remembered. The figures were REALLY affecting; I was fighting tears just looking at them. There was a pregnant woman trying to protect her stomach in one of the cases we weren't allowed to photograph. Powerful stuff.

Lovely! Though I was a bit in tears when your pictures stopped just as you got to the House of the Faun. :b

I know, sorry. ;_; You think you were in tears? The Alexander mosaic wasn't open that day--it was being restored!!! T_T The House of Porn was closed too, although I got a good pic of Priapus whaich shall be uploaded shortly.

oh no! they had the alexander mosaic out of commission for restoration?! my sympathies. Last year I was at the louvre when they closed the entire David collection down for restoration; they were preparing for some anniversary exhibit. I could just barely peep at the the Coronation of Napoleon and Josephine through these big, ugly blockades. The guards thought my sister and I were rather weird. :b

Oh, and I have to tell you about my professors at the Vatican. They knew their way around the Vatican and a few shortcuts to some closed off exhibits, so they cut through some roped off areas, but were promptly caught by guards. At which point they pretended not to know Italian. :b

Oh, that's so awesome XD My History of Art teacher has friends who curate for the British Museum, and just when I was thinking that was the coolest job in the world, she told me something funny. Apparently there's a big problem with rats and mice in the basement storage area, so they keep lots of resident cats. But when the cats can't do the job--and I SWEAR it's true--they bring someone in with a HAWK. I've been meaning to post about this, but keep forgetting. Can you IMAGINE being at a party with this person?

"So what do you do?"
"I'm an artist."
"I'm a journalist."
"I'm a lawyer."
"I'm the falconer for the British Museum."

oO Someone needs to write a fic about this...or draw a comic. and that someone is me. wanna join in? ^_^

Oh Lord, you should see all the pictures I haven't uploaded. XD;;

I had high school Latin. I loved it and got perfect grades, for all the good it does me now that I can barely dredge up a rosa rosam rosae. One day, one day.
