Went on an inadvertent walking tour yesterday when I realised I wanted tea and we couldn't think of anywhere that was open AND served tea past midnight. (Honestly, does every restaurant owner turn into a pumpkin at midnight? You are part of the EUROPEAN UNION, people. Take a cue from your neighbors!)
Tried Hakkasan but they wouldn't let one of the party in as he was wearing trainers. I told them they'd let my uncles in with trainers. The very pretty ukeboi at the door asked what kind they were. "Er," I said, suddenly remembering. "Paul Smith."
Ukeboi twinkled in his very Soho way. I swear his coat was more expensive than ours put together. "There you are. If you were wearing Gucci trainers, I'd be the first to welcome you in."
"Gucci doesn't have trainers!" I said indignantly.
"They do!" he enthused, adorably, and was about to elaborate when the trainer-wearing party brought us back to the issue at hand, and ukeboi sadly assured us that he would catch it from his eagle-eyed manager if he let us in now.
We went up Great Russell Street to the British Museum and Gosh, the comic store where I was accidentally locked in once. Then down to New Oxford Street, then up Tottenham Court Road toward Goodge Street when I suddenly remembered a very cool and rather cheap Japanese restaurant near the Odeon (no, not Yo Sushi :P). There was a karaoke party in at the moment and they were booked till 2, so we got our tea. Plus, the managers were Filipino...Cebuanos, I believe! ^______________^
I want more walking now. British Museum and Gosh, Shaftesbury Av, Forbidden Planet, Neal Street, the Tea House, Screen Face, courtkneeyo's bead shop, Magma, Dover, Fopp, Covent Garden, Lush, Aldwych, Waterloo Bridge. Maybe not all in one go, but they're in about the same area or at least down one general route. We'll see. :)
