"He that hath wife and children doth give hostages to fortune" --Francis Bacon
I don't usually blog new books, as I get at least one a week (oh God, so THAT's where my money's going). But the discount bookstore had some really amazing ones in today.
The Agile Rabbit Book of Historical and Curious Maps. It's so good...and it has a CD! I am definitely getting one for my History of London teacher.
Asian Mythology. My weak point, believe it or not. Myths and legends of Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Hmf...apparently
serendip was right and the Philippines is its own kind of Asian.
Restoration Bawdy: Poems, Songs and Jests on the Subject of Sensual Love. 17th-century pr0n--fun!
The Virago Book of Erotic Myths and Legends. Spot the theme! Also, Virago is one of my favourite publishing houses, their latest being the posthumous Angela Carter Book of Fairy Tales.
Landscape and Memory by Simon Schama. I noticed this one after I had already bought the others. The blurb on the cover says "One of the most intelligent, original, stimulating, self-indulgent, perverse and irresistibly enjoyable books". Exactly what I want people to say about my work! Only 13 pages in (out of about 580) but I'm enjoying it as much as I expected.
Well, that was a rather boring post. I hope to post more exciting news soon.
